Acai Berry to be the New Super Food

The University of Florida knew last year, that the humble Acai berry has potential for much more. Their studies () revealed that extracts from Acai berries had the ability to kill leukemia cells in a laboratory setting.

Yesterday, the Age newspaper in Australia wrote about the Brazilian berry and its health properties. The Acai berry is apparently considered at delivering one of the richest antioxidant sources contained in fruit.

Marketed by Mona Vie, a network marketing company, the fruit isn’t cheap to buy. Costing around $ 4-6 /day it is certainly not affordable to consume by everybody. The company claims that it cost could be compared to the cost of eating daily fruit. To me that is a statement that we could just use it as a substitute and that’s wrong. Why else would they mention this in comparison with cost issues? It kind of bugs me how certain network marketing companies make claims that border on the illegal. It is great to use supplements to improve our health, but we should never substitute nutritional supplements for the real thing. A combination of both would be ideal.

Despite the successful test results undertaking in Florida last year, we mustn’t forget that in reality things could look different. Time will tell whether Acai is the new super food and in the meantime we should revel in the knowledge that the Acai berry can definitely help us to compliment our nutritional intake.

Here is to our Health
