Arbonne Layoffs

January 2, 2009 | By Monika Mundell |

In another sing of stressful economic times, Arbonne International cut 95 jobs from their workforce at the distribution plant located in Greenwood, Indiana.

Arbonne offers a network marketing program based on their Swiss-formulated skin care and makeup products. Arbonne’s skin care products, based on botanical principles, became a reality in the United States in 1980 and are now shared throughout the world through Arbonne’s network of Independent Consultants.

The layoffs will certainly have an impact on the community of Greenwood, which met the cosmetics giant two years ago with open arms and a ten year tax break. Also, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation awarded Arbonne more than one million dollars in tax credits. Indiana government officials are asking residents to look at this news as just a snapshot and to keep a longer term vision in mind.

When the Greenwood facility first opened over two years ago, it was nearly triple the size of Arbonne’s Irvine, California warehouse. Initially, it was handling an astonishing 35,000 shipments every day. The facility will still be a major distribution location for the company.

The impact will be felt primarily amongst Warehouse Associates, with a total of 49 of the layoffs coming from this area.

The company made a statement which in part reads, “We have made all reasonable efforts to treat the departing employees fairly, and wish them well,” the company said in a statement. “The Arbonne business remains strong, and we are confident that our team in Greenwood will continue to make solid contributions to our business and Arbonne’s independent consultants.”

The company also indicates that benefits for those affected by this layoff will continue through February of 2009.
