Avon To Invest Into Earth Quake Stricken China

A specially established China Earthquake Reconstruction fund at the Avon Foundation company has been designed to help relieve the heavily damaged area of the Sichuan Province in China. A massive 8.0 earthquake shattered tons of buildings and killed thousands of people late last month.
A total of $5 million have been committed to help rebuilt much needed homes in local communities. The 600,000 strong sales force of Avon reps has also been asked to participate in local community fund raisers to raise more needed funds.
Avon fund rasising efforts have been successfully proven back in 2001 when after 7/11 over $7 million were raised by reps within the USA.
In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake Avon announced that they will donate the following monies:
- $500,000 (3.5 million RMB) cash donation to the China Red Cross Foundation to assist children who have lost their parents and elderly who have lost daughters and sons;
- $98,000 (688,226 RMB) in personal donations from Avon Sales Promoters and Beauty Boutique owners in China;
- $86,000 (600,000 RMB) worth of urgently needed supplies and provisions, including tents, umbrellas, first aid kits and personal care products;
- $68,000 (471,843 RMB) in personal donations from Avon China Associates to the China Red Cross Foundation and the Guangdong Charity Foundation.
Chairman and CEO of Avon, Andrea Jung said that the company was committed to the provide significant humanitarian assistance to the long term construction of China.
