David Beckham, Herbalife and LA Galaxy

Herbalife just masterminded their smartest publicity and marketing campaign ever. This time, it’s by capitalizing on the hype of David Beckham and LA Galaxy.
According to Brandweek:
Also in full flight was the Herbalife logo emblazoned on the front of every Galaxy jersey, but mainly Beckham’s, the result of a multimillion-dollar deal between the company and AEG, Los Angeles, which owns the team. Galaxy shirts were selling briskly at the game at $90 a pop, and there were more Beckham jerseys being worn by fans than Red Bulls jerseys combined.
“It was great to see Beckham on the field with the Red Bulls. We’re excited for the whole team and it’s been pretty amazing watching all the attention they are getting,” said Greg Probert, president and COO at Herbalife, Los Angeles, which sells personal care and nutritional products. “We had about 900 million media impressions in a two-week period around when Beckham and the new team jerseys were first introduced in mid-July. We heard adidas has produced 600,000 jerseys. That’s a lot of Herbalife billboards walking around. Most importantly, all of this attention is energizing our distributors around the world. Now people are coming up to them and asking, ‘What’s Herbalife?’”
If there’s on thing David Beckham does very well, it’s marketing himself. More than just a football player, this guy has a brand so strong that previous team Manchaster United and Real Madrid have benefited greatly in terms of merchandising and ticket sales. It’s seems everyone wants to “bend it like Beckham”.
This is the video of Beckham’s presentation to the LA Galaxy team:

Obviously, Herbalife distributors have a reason to rejoice. This video hail the coming of a “new” Herbalife, and I think in more ways than one they are absolutely correct.

Traditionally, MLM companies have boasted about their word-of-mouth business model that have raked in billions without traditional media advertising. In a world with thousands on different MLM target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://gobala.linktrackr.com/attractionmarketing-mlmrkeywords">MLM companies, and not to mention the availability of online MLM and business opportuities, and the maturity of the health and supplements industry, I think mass media advertising is a very smart move.
Unless David Beckham and LA Galaxy suddenly become the number one enemy of America, this could see Herbalife inject new life into their already strong brand and put their distributors in a over-motivated frenzy that will surely rsult in enourmous growth for the company.
