Direct Selling Surges Forward

November 29, 2007 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

Despite the tarnished name of the industry the direct selling industry has managed to recruit 1 million new distributors in the USA during 2006. Companies such as Avon, Herbalife, The Longaberger Company, Mary Kay and The Pampered Chef all managed to snatch up some good numbers of new blood.

Women are still providing over 85% to the distributor workforce which ties in with the "work at home"picture.

The study also indicates that 75% of all sales were conducted face to face. This just shows how much all these companies could improve if they were to focus more so on the Internet as well. It is still grossly underutilized and that speaks volumes.

The whole report is nothing like a popularity stunt to put the industry into a better light to new prospects. In my eyes it takes more to kit a tarnished name than producing some stats which are probably not even reflecting the reality.

What they conveniently forget to mention is the numbers of distributors who stopped working in the field during the same time frame.

We are all aware of the rinse and repeat system in marketing and it doesn’t differ at all in direct selling. 100 people start today and tomorrow 95 are gone.

So don’t believe all you hear about great figures and all. I certainly don’t!

You can make up your own mind and read the rest of the press release here.
