Good ‘Ol New Years Resolution
January 9, 2009 | By Monika Mundell | 1 Comment »
If you are like most people then you probably spent some time reflecting on the year gone by with a focus on where you could improve your life in 2009. I’m not sure whether it is a by-product of the Xmas season, but whenever it gets closer to the end of year I tend to become reflective by nature.
Now let it be know that I’m actually not a person who sets herself new years resolution goals by design. I have long ago recognized that they don’t work. When I say that, I mean they do not work for me as I tend to start something and then just give up along the way. The reason I do is because when I try to attempt too many things at once I automatically set myself up for failure.
So in the process of many failed new years resolutions I started to understand that in order to achieve something one has to take things step by step, one step and one thing at the time.
I urge you to read this last paragraph again as it really is the real thing.
If you want to achieve something big this year, you need to break this down into measurable or bite sized steps. Trying to do too much right from the start will only serve to disillusion you and you will eventually just give up – just like I used to in the past.
Break down your targets. For example if you strive to build a team of 20 new distributors this year, break this down into weeks to determine what needs to be done to achieve this. Usually every organization has average stats. These are a great starting point to help you determine your action steps for a common goal.
If say you need to speak to 100 people to recruit 1 new team member into your organization it means to get 20 you would have to speak to a minimum of 2,000 people this year. Of course these figures are by no means an indication of reality but a mere suggestion of how to break up your bigger goals into smaller “bite sized” ones.
Let us know what resolutions you really want to achieve this year.
