Indian TRAI Lacks Power To Regulate

Indians are being hassled by telemarketers to the extent of major annoyance as reports surfaced today. Apparently TRAI, who is the Indian Telecom regulator hasn’t got powers to regulate direct selling agents and their often dubious phone practices to private residents in the country.
What TRAI can do is to ensure compliance and terms under the TRAI act, but direct selling opportunity providers have the freedom to do as they please with cold calling as it seems.
According to the report, some people get around six calls a day and no matter that there is a National Do Not Call Registry in India (NDNC) it won’t be able to screen those direct selling calls due to the law.
My take on this is that it is ridiculous. How much privacy do we really have? Are we perhaps exposed to marketers every whim for the cost of our privacy?
This just goes to show that things have been taken too far and the problem isn’t just in India either.
While complaints have risen in recent times, it might take months or even years until something feasible is done about it to please those who suffer right now.
