Is Direct Selling Dying?
December 10, 2007 | By Monika Mundell |
Is direct selling dying right in front of our eyes? With all the latest news in the media about Amway related to pyramid selling and noodle and rice pyramid stories in Thailand we really need to take a reality check. Sure, there will proabbly always be those who are naive enough to jump at the chance of making a quick buck as it is so often promised in direct selling.
The problem is now with the actual direct selling part of those companies, but rather with the MLM part of it. See, most companies encourage their sales people to focus on recruiting/sponsoring which really boils down to pyramid selling.
The focus is too often on recruiting rather than the actual selling of the “direct selling” equation.
Therefore it is no wonder that some 95% of distributors fail and give up after they realize that they can’t convert their family as it was so easily made believable to them.
Those companies toy with our dreams of a better life and they know too damn well that most people fail to see the clever marketing tactics employed by them. So, they buy into the company at a much too high price because they were told that this is the best and fastest way to the top. (Don’t believe me - it happened to me too you know)
Funny thing is, that since I stopped actively recruiting I haven’t heard once from any of my upline! And now that my yearly membership is due (with a projected investment of around $5,000) to keep in the top percentage of buying suddenly I keep getting all the team emails again right up to the top management.
Figure this!
It think it is suffice to say that I’m outta here. I’ve had my fair share of lies being told to me when I was blue eyed and all hopes. Now, my only mission in MLM is to warn others of the potential crap that goes on in these companies. At least you have a chance to look at this with an open mind and a better perspective and you have been warned too.
So, is direct selling dying? Well hell no - it is stronger than ever, but despite this rise of the Phoenix, we need to be cautious of who we deal with.
