Longaberger Matriarch Turns 100
July 14, 2008 | By Monika Mundell |
Bonnie Longaberger the mother of the late Dave Longaberger, the founder the Longaberger Company, will turn 100 years on Wednesday, July 16. A special recognition will be presented to you by the Today Show and thousands of Longaberger consultants nationwide.
Bonnie Longaberger has always been known "Grandma Bonnie" by the company’s consultants. Having been an inspiration to the company she was also the reason the daffodil basket was created.
Tami Longabereger, her granddaughter, CEO and president of the Longaberger company said "Grandma Bonnie has been known as much for her love of the simple life as for her wit and humor. She is remarkably resilient and remains one of the strongest women I know."
Having spent most of her life in Dresden, she married her late husband J.W. in 1927 and become mother to 12 kids. Their home was located directly next to the workshop where J.W. handcrafted baskets, later teaching many of his children to do the same.
Tami’s father Dave started The Longaberger Company in 1973. Today, the company is among the most successful direct selling companies in the USA.
Grandma Bonnie’s commonsense attitude comes to life in this quote from her: "A person should have a good sense of humor, and if that doesn’t work, they should rely on the Lord." Tomorrow, July 16th, Willard Scott of The Today Show plans to recognize Grandma Bonnie’s 100th birthday during the show.
The Longaberger Company is America’s premier maker of handcrafted baskets. It offers a variety of other home and lifestyle products, including pottery, wrought iron and fabric accessories. In the U.S. there are approximately 45,000 independent Home Consultants.
