Macau MLM Riots
August 8, 2008 | By Monika Mundell |
On Friday 18 July, Macau experienced a riot from an angry mlm mob who turned out at the Triangle Park, in the city’s northern district to demonstrate their disapproval with the local government.
Apparently Macau had passed a bill to criminalize pyramid schemes which forced several company closures earlier in the year when the law became reality. Many people lost their "jobs" which ultimately lead to the demonstration. This was the second demonstration.
Pyramid schemes are illegal in many countries world wide.
In Macau, a business is labelled a pyramid when it is selling physical goods and involves a great number of people, who all have to pay “joining fees” or “investment fees” when they sign up.
Apparently when the closures happened those leading the pack were doing a runner, leaving those below empty handed which resulted in the demonstration.
Sadly enough people were selling houses and cars to start their business and are now left empty handed.
I wonder when people are going to learn!
