MLM and Relationships

MLM is a lot like relationships and how we tick with our customers and distributors. Let’s face it, if our customer doesn’t like us, he will most likely not come back to re-order, regardless of whether he likes the product. As MLM distributors we need to build long lasting relationships that bring us sales and commission time and time again.

Running a successful MLM business is a lot like looking after a happy marriage. If both partners are not happy, the relationship won’t work. So what does it take to make the relationship between distributor and customers work? Is there some magic recipe that we can apply to help us with pointers, or is it common sense?

Not really, but there are certain things you can apply to help you with better customer and distributor retention.

Tips to help your customers stick around longer:

  • Treat your customers like they are the only one
  • Provide top customer service, including free newsletters, free drop shipping (if you live nearby), samples, invitations to parties exclusively held for customers and maybe even an open day where they are welcome to come and sample anything on your shelf.
  • Follow up! If you don’t, then somebody else will.
  • Keep track of their progress and if the going gets tough for them , you can remind them of the long way they have come since starting on the products (this works well for weight loss MLM’s)
  • Treat your customers to a special surprise for special milestones achieved.
  • Ask them for feedback (you’ll be surprised how many distributors fail to do this)
  • Remember their special dates (this could be a little tricky since you’ll need to ask them personal questions and not everybody is happy to share details) Just go with your gut feeling on this one.
  • Always under promise and over deliver (there is nothing worse than failed expectations).

Tips to help your distributors help stick around longer:

We also know, that unless we can build a nice team (down line) of distributors in our MLM, then our residual income will never grow. But how shall we possibly try to keep our distributors from running a mile considering the high turn over in MLM?

For starters, this is something that we can’t control at all, but we do have a higher chance at stick-ability if we use certain measures.

  • Provide top notch training to your down line!
  • Listen for hidden signs of trouble and double check with them at the slightest chance of problems. Nothing is worse than investing your valuable time into the wrong person.
  • Work with the distributors that work! Don’t neglect those in your team that help to build your check.
  • Stop wasting time on "wanna bees".
  • Show recognition for your top working team members. Make it something feasible that is desired by the others so they learn to strive to do better.
  • Be available, but at the same time establish clear boundaries. You don’t want them to run your life!
  • Be a good mentor and lead by example.

Those tips can guide you in the right direction to better customer and distributor retention in MLM.
