MLM Objections: "What is it all about?"

September 3, 2007 | By admin | No Comments »

mlm-objection1I’ve decided to do a series on “Handling Objections” which will feature the most common objections in MLM and how to overcome them.

This week’s objection, or just an honest question depending on the situation is: “What’s it all about?

Assume that you have identified a hot prospect for your MLM opportunity, and you finally manage to break the ice and introduce him / her to the idea of maybe joining your business opportunity.

It’s the do or die moment when they ask you a one-liner question, and expect to know in the next 3 minutes whether or not they would be interested in what you have to offer. Some call this an elevator pitch, i.e. the amount of time you have to pitch an idea or opportunity to someone before the elevator door opens and the prospect is gone forever.

This is not enough time to give a full-length presentation of your opportunity. Instead, you only have the time to raise the curiosity and interest of your prospect, to the point where he / she would think “That sounds interesting..” and would probably be willing to have further contact with your for a better overview. This can be anywhere between 30 seconds to 3 minutes, max.

Scenario: You meet a stranger, tell him that you’re in business for yourself, he looks amused and he asks you “What’s it all about?”

So what would you say, to make sure the prospect gets enough information (but not all) and gets turned into a hot lead? What could you say to make sure that instead of fleeing for his life, this guy would give you his contact details for an appointment?
