Prospecting Your MLM

August 18, 2007 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

When you start off in your first MLM business you hear all about prospecting. There are many ways to prospect, some are easier and some harder. What you need to understand is that there is no right way and wrong way in prospecting. Given that you stay ethical while doing this. Unfortunately there have been many recent cases about distributors in various companies who ended up in court due to their shoddy business practices. This naturally makes it harder for any honest MLM business owner to prospect in the marketplace.

You were probably told to go and make a list of all the people you know, from your family to your friends and all the way to your baker and hairdresser. You then wrote that list all the while wondering what it was good for. But then at your company’s training event all the leaders were talking about that list again and off you went to prospect like mad.

Soon enough reality hit you hard! Nobody was interested in what you had to offer. You started to question your ability in prospecting your MLM business and your methods and wondered what went wrong?

The Answer is right here: You talked to the wrong people!

  • Did you know that most people shut right off when they even hear a mention of some sort related to selling?
  • In order to successfully prospect your MLM business you need the customer to come to you first.
  • Contacting your “list” of relatives and friends is the biggest mistake you can make

Not only will you loose your credibility in your circle of relatives and friends, but they will start to avoid you like the plague. Most people see MLM as a sales business. But they couldn’t be further from the truth. It is actually a marketing business. You market yourself. And unless your prospects sell themselves to you, they will never join your business. Do you seriously think that the company’s hot shots walk the streets posting flyers? Or do you believe that they prospect to everything that moves like they state at events? What they fail to mention is the fact that they only do this once they made it big.

No, these guys are actually masters at marketing and by understanding what drives prospects to buy and join they can leverage themselves and their MLM business. Once a leader of a company has gained credibility they find it very easy to sign even family members into their business.
