The Shady Side Of MLM

June 20, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

Multi-level-marketing or mlm has a very shady side. As a matter of fact, it is exactly that shadiness that has given mlm a bad name over the last 20 odd years. Most of you would have heard about the stigma certain network marketing companies have attached to them. One that comes to mind is Amway. The company has had their own fair share of dodgy business practices and as a result of this mlm today has a very bad name.

Is it justified. In my eyes it is. To me, most mlm marketing campaigns are nothing but lies. I’m afraid I lied too. Not because I’m a liar, but because I was told to. You just leave out the truth.

The most obvious was when I used to travel to our company’s monthly training seminars. While they get everyone up on stage to talk about last month’s income, I saw it time and time again how people conveniently left out the fact that they quoted their income before expense.

So, while the statement “I earned $9,000 last months” sounds rather cool to visitors, it fails to mention that income is actually before business running costs which in our company was anything from $ 1500 -$3500+ for serious entrepreneurs. Unfortunately it was exactly those who got up on stage every month.

Another blatant lie are those multi-level-marketing capture pages we see everywhere on the Internet.

  • Make $250,000 in your first year!
  • You too can become a millionaire and earn $ 1 million!
  • Earn up to $1 K a day!
I’m sure you have been tempted time and time again when you saw and ad like these. Fact is, most of them make outrageous claims playing with your subconscious mind. Since most of us would love to attain riches fast, these adverts hit the nail on the head and put a lot of people out of their life savings once they realize that mlm isn’t a piece of cake like they make it sound.
